Practical Sys Admin Course

Course Title: Practical System Administration: Mastering Essential Skills

Course Overview:

This comprehensive course is designed to provide (after school, undergraduate) students with the practical knowledge and skills required to become proficient system administrators. Through a combination of theoretical lessons, hands-on exercises, and real-world examples, students will gain a deep understanding of various aspects of system administration. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the expertise to effectively manage and administer complex computer systems.

Course Duration: 12 weeks (approximately 36 hours)

Course Syllabus: (This changes from time to time, upon popular demand)

Assumptions:

1. You are a Filipino IT engineer. 

2. You already have cloud experience or certified with:
       AWS Cloud Practitioner Foundational and/or with SysOps Administrator Associate. 
       Or Azure Fundamentals and/or with Azure Administrator Associate.
       Or  Google Cloud Platform GCP Foundational and/or with GCP Associate.

3. You are already experienced at least a year or two at work in system administration in a corporate or institutional setup.

4. You are either of the following: System Engineer, Network Engineer, Linux Administrator or a DB Administrator.

Module 5: System Monitoring and Performance Optimization
Module 6: Security and Compliance

Module 7: Cloud Infrastructure Management
Module 8: Automation and Configuration Management  (including using scripts  e.g.  Event Logs auto archiving)
Module 9: High Availability and Scalability

Module 10: Incident Management and Troubleshooting |  & Module 10 B: Level 2 Automation and Configuration Management
Module 11: Soft Skills for System Administrators

(Audit) Module 12: How to learn to do these as your monthly system administration tasks

1. Account review  reporting ( and how to retrieve local and domain accounts easily, monthly)

2. Log review reporting

3. Microsoft WSUS  released KB patches reporting

4. PAM privileged  access management reporting

5. Vulnerability  risk management  reporting (commonly known use for Nessus by Tenable)

6. Browser version, software version inventory reporting (using Ansible)

7. Cipher suite reporting (use of IIS Crypto by Nartac*)

8. AI / machine learning engineering for automation of all of the tasks  above.

In completing the comprehensive set of modules on practical system administration throughout this journey, you'll acquire a wide range of off-abroad knowledge and skills, empowering you to excel in the dynamic world of IT operations.

From the foundations of system administration to advanced topics in automation, network services, security, and soft skills, you'll deal with into the multifaceted aspects of managing and optimizing computer systems. You'll learn the importance of maintaining robust infrastructure, implementing efficient workflows, and ensuring the security and integrity of data.
